The internet is an ecosystem in itself, and community can grow from it despite it growing from individuals. The idea of an grassroots community and society is something that feels lost often with the popularity of platforms like Instagram and X/Twitter, where data and actions are seen as products to better shape, control, and get money from the communities of the internet. Still, I believe in the importance of physical community even as it grows from digital ones, to have mental and spacial divisions between work, home, and a third space, for example. If they grow from digital communities, maybe there is better chance of them having these grassroots communities across divisions--- for instance, rather than meeting people initially through similarities in socio-economic status living in the same area, as defined by a "public construction project," you meet people across these boundaries and physical communities are stronger because of these inter-spacial connections.
The internet, with complex algorithms replacing randomness and simple search algorithms, however, has increasingly become like these "built" and pre-constructed communities by placing people in echo chambers with each other--- a person on one side of the internet has an entirely different niche sense of what public opinion is as opposed to someone on the other side.
